Santa Cake

I made this cake for my little cousin (again, she's 23...but she'll always be my little cousin). She wanted a Santa head cake, but she wanted the boring flat kind. I told her that wasn't happening with me. Initially I had intended for the entire cake to be covered with modeling chocolate, but the grocery store was out of the chocolate I use for the whole week before xmas. SO, I only had 8 oz of chocolate, so that's what the face is.

The hat is cream cheese icing colored red, and the hair and hat trimming is butter icing. I put some super pearl on the hat trimming to try to make it look different than the hair. This is the first time I have piped anything...I bought ONE tip and ONE reusable bag...which was WAY too small. It was a good experience though, so now I feel more comfortable with piping bags and will buy bigger ones and more tips for the future.
